BELICYMO 34’
Canting Keel Harbour Racing Yacht
Naval Architecture by Murray, Burns
& Dovell
This concept was designed for Sydney Yachts
as a look into the future of production
boats – a parallel to what the car
manufacturers develop for show at the annual
car exhibits. The innovations incorporated
into this little boat are primarily in the
keel and rig. The keel is a scaled down
and simplified version of the keel on ATOMIC
with all of the same unique handling and
balance characteristics of her big sister.
The stiff carbon rig carries a very full
roach mainsail akin to the square top mainsails
developed for the America’s Cup. Like
many modern boats the spreaders are swept
back to eliminate the need for runners.
On “BELICYMO” we have eliminated
this problem by mounting the shroud attachments
on an adjustable tract. This also allows
the crew to ease the rig forward when downwind
running for better efficiency in the jib.
This little 34’ sportster races well
above her weight, spending most of her time
battling with Sydney 38’s and other
40’ racers for line honours.
